Last week, representatives from BGER’s Ports & Marine team attended the PIANC Asia Pacific Conference 2024 in Sydney, Australia.
Held from the 27-30th August, PIANC APAC is one of the largest gatherings for the waterborne transport industry. It aims to bring together ports, harbour and recreational boating professionals from engineering, planning and scientific backgrounds.
Representing BGER, our attendees included Gavin Wearne (Director – Ports & Marine), Ben Knowles (Discipline Lead – Ports & Marine), Udaya Kilgour (Materials and Durability Specialist), Adam Bartle (Coastal Lead), Ian Putt (Technical Director – Structures) and Luke Lyons (Senior Coastal Engineer).
Kicking off the three days with a fantastic welcome reception, more than 300 delegates from 21 countries gathered to share their knowledge and expertise across the maritime transport industry.
Gavin Wearne (Director – Ports & Marine), says “It was a fantastic event with all the key marine consultants, contractors, suppliers and NSW port regulatory bodies present.”
The BGER team geared up for a big two days filled with various technical sessions – covering various topics including digital advancements, dredging, reclamation, climate change adaption, coastal disasters and more.
As the technical sessions and exhibition ended, the team came together to attend the gala dinner to conclude their time at the conference.

I was especially pleased to note the excellent quality of presentations and the alignment within the industry towards a sustainable future.”
Before flying home on Friday, our team embarked on the PIANC Sydney Harbour Walking Tour around Circular Quay and a vessel tour from Campbells Cove Wharf.
