Graduate Spotlight – Finley Macpherson

Congratulations to Finley on recently graduating with a Master of Professional Engineering from the University of Western Australia!

Finley joined the Mechanical team as an undergraduate engineer in October 2023 and was promoted to Graduate Mechanical Engineer upon completing their studies.

Since joining the team, they have contributed to various projects for major clients. Reflecting on their experience, Finley shares, “Being involved in projects has given me the chance to dive into both technical engineering and project management roles. Each new challenge has been a valuable opportunity for me to advance my skills in these areas.”

Embracing a proactive approach, they add, “Everyone has been incredibly supportive. Knowing that the people around me are passionate about sharing their knowledge helps turn every question into a learning opportunity. It’s been an enriching journey.”

Looking ahead, Finley is excited to gain more experience in both technical engineering and project management. “I’m looking forward to running a project from start to finish in the future. It’ll be a rewarding experience to apply what I’ve learned and see how everything pieces together.”

To undergraduate students and recent graduates stepping into the industry, Finley says, “Believe in yourself—you’re more capable than you realise. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow and learn.”

Outside of work, Finley is a passionate rock climber. “I’ve been climbing for over 10 years, and it’s a great way to stay active while connecting with nature. Plus, it’s a mental workout that helps with problem-solving and managing risks. One of my favourite places to climb is the sea cliffs at West Cape Howe Park, between Albany and Denmark. The view from above the sea is always breathtaking!”
